Chemical Engineering Department:

The Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the vital engineering disciplines that integrates natural sciences such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, and economics, with the aim of designing, developing, and operating chemical and physical processes that transform raw materials or intermediates into economically valuable products, while ensuring environmental protection and the safety of personnel and equipment. Given the significance of chemical engineering, chemical engineers play a pivotal role in various industrial sectors including chemical and petrochemical industries, energy, oil and gas, cement production, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, electronic device manufacturing, and environmental engineering. Chemical engineers also contribute to the innovation of new materials with specific electrical, optical, or mechanical properties, the design of biotechnological processes for pharmaceutical production using microorganisms and enzymes, and the development of environmental solutions such as catalytic converters to reduce harmful emissions and wastewater treatment facilities to protect the environment. Success in the field of chemical engineering requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and fundamental sciences underlying industrial processes. This is clearly reflected in the department’s academic curriculum, which includes advanced coursework in applied mathematics, mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass and heat transfer, separation processes, chemical reaction engineering, and process and reactor design — all built upon a solid foundation of mathematics, chemistry, and physics.
