Science in Civil Engineering

Science in Civil Engineering

The oldest and most elegant branch of engineering profession in engineering colleges all over the world and that is due to the fact that civil engineering is related to almost all aspects of civilization. Many of the important things in our lives that we take for granted are the product of civil engineering. Civil engineer deals with a wide variety of engineering aspects such as designing, construction, and maintenance of different structure (buildings, embankments, storage tanks, dams, roads, water and wastewater networks, irrigation and drainage networks, etc. ), solving execution problems, managing engineering and construction projects, and it just does not end there. Civil engineer also has a significant role in planning and managing transportation systems, terrific safety, conservation and development of water resources, treatment and reuse of Wastewater, and the list extends. The civil engineering curriculum in Qassim University is set to serve the broad range activities of the profession. It is designed to fulfill the student's need of sufficient and balanced content of different civil engineering topics. Initially such topics cover most, if not all, of the sub-disciplines of civil engineering. Students then choose to specialize in one or more sub-disciplines towards the end of the degree

Duration of Study:

  • Five years

Total Credit Hours:

  • 160 credit hours

Credit Hours Required for Graduation:

  • 160 credit hours:
    1.    University Requirements:12 credit hours
    2.    College Requirements:48 credit hours
    3.    Program and/or Department Requirements:73 credit hours (including 6 credit hours to be selected from a set of elective courses)
    4.    Free Electives: 6 credit hours to be selected from the courses available at the university

Student Category:

  •   Male and female students holding a high school certificate (scientific track) or equivalent, who meet the university’s admission requirements

Specialization Track:

  •    No specialization tracks – students graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering

Mode of Study:

  •    Direct (in-person) learning

Required Major:

  • The admission to the college is based on a student's total score composed from percentile rank in high school test (30%), score in achievement test (40%), and score in qualification test (30%). The student’s total score is calculated from a weighted combination of these three test scores. The weight of each test score is determined by the university council. Priority is given to the students having the higher total scores. The total number of students accepted is also determined by the University Council according to the capacities of scientific colleges.

Admission from outside the major:

  •     Requires the approval of the dean of the college to which the student is transferring, based on the college’s regulations.
  •     The student must not have studied more than four semesters at the university.
  •     The transfer request must be submitted within the period specified by the university.
  •     The student may submit a transfer request after completing at least one semester.
  •    The student is allowed to transfer from one major to another only once or twice during their academic career.

Tuition Fees:

  • No tuition fees for Saudi students (government-funded program). Tuition fees apply to non-Saudi students in accordance with the university’s regulations

Required GPA:

  •

Admission Selection Mechanism:

  • Selection is based on the weighted average (high school GPA + aptitude test + achievement test), according to the percentage determined annually by the University Council.

 Program Education Objectives:

1) Preparation of the graduates to have a successful career as civil engineers in governmental and private sectors.
2) Preparation of the graduates to pursue their professional development through self-learning and advanced degrees.
3) Preparation of the graduates to progress to positions of leadership in their profession.
4) Preparation of the graduates to effectively participate in the sustainable development of the Saudi Society.

Program Track Details:

  • There are no specialized tracks within the program; the program awards a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a general track covering all fields of civil engineering.
