Qassim University obtains a patent in the field of pharmaceutical industries

A research team from the university obtained a patent document from the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, for inventing “a method for preparing an excipient from date waste,” through optimal exploitation of date waste after extracting the active ingredients from it, to produce an excipient for nano-sized pharmaceutical tablets that represents a new technology in This is the pharmaceutical field.

The research team led by Dr. Fahd bin Muhammad Al-Mandraj, with the participation of Dr. Thamer Ibrahim Rajab and Dr. Wael Abdel Hafeez Shindi, was able to devise this ideal method for using nanotechnology to produce a pharmaceutical excipient of a critical nano size with very distinct physical and chemical properties. According to this invention, it allows... New horizons in the field of pharmaceutical industry, which allows rapid delivery of active substances in a short time, as well as reducing the concentration of active substances. Studies of this excipient (crystalline nanocellulose) can also be recommended in the manufacture of cancer drugs due to its distinguished properties in the speed and ease of delivering the active substance to the affected organ.

This innovation comes within the “patent registration project for university employees”, sponsored by His Excellency the President of the University, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Daoud, and one of the initiatives of the University Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, represented by the Center for Innovation and Intellectual Property, as this project aims to raise the university’s local and international classification in The number of patents registered for it, as well as contributing to motivating university employees to transform their inventions and research ideas into protected products with economic returns. It is also noted that the granted protection document is one of the outcomes of the research project funded within the institutional funding initiative in the Deanship of Scientific Research.
