Science in Chemistry

Program mission:

Providing an advanced scientific research program to prepare distinguished competencies in the field of chemistry that meet sustainable development requirements and labor market needs in accordance with the best scientific standards using the latest technologies.

Program Goals:

  1. Providing students with a thorough and critical understanding of specialized chemical theories, principles and advanced techniques underlying modern applications in the field of chemistry.

  2. Developing students’ ability to consistently apply and appropriately utilize specialized chemical theories, principles and advanced techniques in designing creative solutions to chemistry relevant problems and chemical research.

  3. Providing students with advanced technological and ICT skills, tools and techniques to process and analyze data and information in complex and advanced chemical contexts, empowering their ability to clearly communicate their results through various means.

  4. Developing students’ ability to plan and manage research activities as individuals or as team members, exercising high levels of responsibility and academic ethics integrity.

  5. Providing high-standard chemical research that fosters students’ research capabilities, fulfils the institution’s research priorities and addresses current community and labour market needs.

Program Graduate Attributes:

  1. Having thorough and critical knowledge and understanding of theory, processes, practices, research inquiry techniques and their implications to recent developments in the field chemistry.

  2. Ability to effectively employ chemical theories, concepts and procedures to design solutions for complex and advanced problems.

  3. Ability to independently produce a major piece of scholarly research e.g. a thesis and/or a research article relevant to a specialized area in the field of chemistry.

  4. Ability to appropriately and effectively use technological tools to process and analyze data and information relevant to complex and advanced chemical contexts.

  5. Ability to clearly communicate chemical information in written and oral forms.

  6. Ability to effectively plan for and manage specialized tasks and activities and autonomously make informed-decisions relevant to unanticipated chemistry-relevant issues and problems.

  7. Ability to collaborate on diverse chemistry-relevant issues and problems through performing a wide range of tasks in a joint team work setup exercising high responsibility and academic ethics integrity.

 

Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. On successful completion of the program, students are able to thoroughly recall and describe specialized concepts, principles and theories in the main areas of chemistry and their current application to relevant-specialist fields of academic or professional practice.

  2. On successful completion of the program, students are able to critically identify and characterize the processes, materials, techniques, practices, conventions, terminology and specialized research and inquiry techniques to be used in specialized chemical contexts.

  3. On successful completion of the program, students are able to consistently apply specialized theories, principles and concepts to solve problems in complex and advanced chemical contexts and to make critical and informed assessment providing creative solutions.

  4. On successful completion of the program, students are able to appropriately use processes, techniques, tools, materials and relevant procedures to carry out complex and advanced activities in specialized chemical contexts.

  5. On successful completion of the program, students are able to plan and execute a major piece of scholarly research e.g. a thesis and/or a research article applying practical and/or theoretical specialized knowledge and research enquiry techniques, producing sound conclusions relevant to a specialized area in the field of chemistry.

  6. On successful completion of the program, students are able to effectively process and analyze data and information in complex and advanced chemical contexts using appropriate technological and ICT tools.

  7. On successful completion of the program, students are able to clearly communicate their results through various means such as, written reports, oral presentations, project report discussion and/or viva.

  8. On successful completion of the program, students are able to take initiative in planning for and managing specialized activities and projects in specialized chemical contexts and to independently acquire additional relevant knowledge and skills to handle problems, whenever necessary.

  9. On successful completion of the program, students are able to collaborate and participate in research activities and projects, exercising high responsibility and academic ethics integrity.
