Qassim University obtains a patent in the field of pharmaceutical industries

A research team from the university obtained a patent document from the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, for inventing “a method for preparing an excipient from date waste,” through optimal exploitation of date waste after extracting the active ingredients from it, to produce an excipient for nano-sized pharmaceutical tablets that represents a new technology in This is the pharmaceutical field.

 

The research team led by Dr. Fahd bin Muhammad Al-Mandraj, with the participation of Dr. Thamer Ibrahim Rajab and Dr. Wael Abdel Hafeez Shindi, was able to devise this ideal method for using nanotechnology to produce a pharmaceutical excipient of a critical nano size with very distinct physical and chemical properties. According to this invention, it allows... New horizons in the field of pharmaceutical industry, which allows rapid delivery of active substances in a short time, as well as reducing the concentration of active substances. Studies of this excipient (crystalline nanocellulose) can also be recommended in the manufacture of cancer drugs due to its distinguished properties in the speed and ease of delivering the active substance to the affected organ.


This innovation comes within the “patent registration project for university employees”, sponsored by His Excellency the President of the University, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Daoud, and one of the initiatives of the University Vice Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, represented by the Center for Innovation and Intellectual Property, as this project aims to raise the university’s local and international classification in The number of patents registered for it, as well as contributing to motivating university employees to transform their inventions and research ideas into protected products with economic returns. It is also noted that the granted protection document is one of the outcomes of the research project funded within the institutional funding initiative in the Deanship of Scientific Research.

Qassim University has recently concluded its eleventh internship initiative designed for medical students within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The university, represented by the College of Medicine, organized the “Eleventh Excellence Course for Medical Students in the Kingdom,” which continued over the course of Friday and Saturday, February 16-17, 2024, with the participation of 23 speakers who presented 10 qualitative lectures and 16 workshops, from which 650 male and female students benefited from attendance at the city’s conference center. University, and more than 2,900 beneficiaries remotely.

The course covered a number of topics and workshops that aimed to prepare medical college students for the labor market environment, introduce them to the available specializations, help them choose the medical specialization, provide them with the professional skills necessary to enter the health work environment, and introduce them to the modern requirements of the Commission for Health Specialties.

This course contributes to the preparation of post-graduate medical students to enter the labor market to be a responsible doctor who has the highest professional qualities and who serves and cares for patients.

His Highness the Prince of the Qassim Region witnesses the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the university’s medical city and the health cluster in the region

Yesterday, Monday, in his office in the Emirate of the region, His Royal Highness Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Emir of the Qassim Region, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the University’s Medical City and the Qassim Health Cluster, in order to enhance aspects of cooperation in the field of medical services, in the presence of His Excellency the President of the University, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al-Daoud, and the CEO of the Qassim Health Council, Dr. Musa bin Muhammad Al-Harbi.

 

 

This memorandum, which was signed on behalf of the university by Dr. Khaled bin Fahd Al-Husays, Executive Director of the University’s Medical City, and on behalf of the Qassim Health Cluster, the CEO of the cluster, aims to raise the level of partnership and joint coordination between the two sides, which includes providing a range of medical services in 6 areas, namely “patient referral, Manpower, intensive and critical care rooms, laboratories, radiology and medical imaging, medicines, by taking advantage of the capabilities and resources available to both parties to provide health services of distinguished quality and high efficiency that meet the desired ambitions.

 

 

His Highness the Emir of the Qassim region stressed the importance of signing this memorandum, which comes as confirmation of the continuation of fruitful mutual cooperation between government agencies in the region, activating medical cooperation to serve the patient in the Qassim region, and supporting the areas targeted by the agreement in a way that achieves the public interest and improves outcomes, in light of continuous follow-up and constant care from His Highness agreed to develop areas of mutual cooperation between various sectors, and to benefit from the opportunities and expertise that exist in the region.

 

The two sides appreciated the interest and support of His Highness the Emir of the region for projects to develop health services in the region, and to raise the level of efficiency and performance within the health transformation program and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to improve life and build an ambitious and prosperous nation that enjoys well-being through a comprehensive and sustainable development process.
